Description

Starting with my SECOND EVER scene, this is a little collage of the progression of the characters that would become Lola and Misty. Pretty much done between the 23rd and Halloween. I got the graveyard set from Daz as a freebie, so I loaded it up and fumbled my way through. The initial pose was meant for v4 characters. I didn't know! At some point whatever shirts I had them in came off for some reason or another, and I hit the render button and... well, I make no apologies. Love is love, alright?! Pretty much tweaked the whole thing by hand in the second photo to fix a number of issues. Again, i didn't know that the V4 pose wouldn't work. I think they're from "Fire and Ice" from the freebies section here on Renderosity. Originally they were in a graveyard because it was part of a haunted house they went to. Even then, the story was pretty clear. I ditched Misty's hair, changed Lola's. And her outfit. Misty didn't have cancer yet - she was just bald for reasons or something. (Basically, I was looking to pick out some hair for her on payday.) Then I reset the characters. They had some fun. You can probably tell - I had no morphs at this point. I was using freebie skin to make each character unique. I tell you, that first payday after I started using the software was a welcome one! That and Lola and Misty were now of different heights. Thought it's hard to tell here. Then they ended up getting lost in each other's eyes, and their height difference started to come into play. I still like this image. Heck, they'll all always have a special place in my heart. I can remember I wanted to do something like "Angry showdown stare" only Lola's hand ended up on Misty's neck, so... I guess the chemistry was always there. Then, what I consider the culmination of the set. This is still an image I'm happy with, even if I wince at how it was lit. It has a soft feel to it. Romantic, and just slightly ominous. This was about the time I realized that Misty was bald because of cancer treatment. I don't know. I just like it, still. Even after all this time and my obvious improvement. There are several freebies at play, but sadly I can't remember all the people to attribute. I apologize. (Other than Ghastly.) Thank you for looking. And please... be gentle. I know it's pretty garbage. I just wanted to show the contrast!

Nothing wrong with looking back. I have 10 years or so of looking back in my gallery, and there's several from back then that I still love. My first props, my first custom built outfit, the images for my book...

Your past has value, and you can see in these the first inklings of a burgeoning talent. Way to go!

Thanks you very much. I really appreciate your kind words. Daz Studio came along at just the right time in my life. Oddly enough, I think it may have saved me.

Nope. NOT garbage! Very tender and moving, actually....

But I know what you're saying about going back and looking at what you did way back when.... I cringe sometimes when I go back and look at Page 1 of Chapter 1....

It's interesting. I read this other web comic (when i remember) that has come a long way from it's earliest pages. I think that's sort of a hall mark of the art form, tbh.

Thanks for your feedback and kindness.

This is fantastic work, although I totally understand about going back and looking at your older art. Some of my old stuff looks pretty awful to me now.

Thanks. I think rather than compare ourselves to others, it is better to compare with the people we once were. I'll never be Da Vinci, but I'm better than I was two years ago.

I would say it's a beautiful love story beyond death lovely illustration

Thanks! It's neat how the story itself has progressed. They've picked up friends, and now there's a book! I know where their future runs, and that is sad, but also beautiful.

Thanks. I'm tempted to see how it would progress if I did it again now. Of course, I'm not sure I want to load that old graveyard set again, lol.

Thank you. I am humbled by the remarks these old renders have received. The characters are close to my heart.

Why would you delete them? I lost several years of renders by accident and several scene files out of stupidity. Great serie.

I tend to hang on to everything.

But. I've talked to artists that don't. That whole, "don't be weighed down by the past" thing. Which is a shame, really. One in particualr, a piece of theirs was a big inspiration for my fantasy series. I got a hold of them to see if they could send a higher-res copy, as mine was just this little print-out I did and they said they deleted anything older than two years.

Crying shame. Like, that piece meant so much to me and the artist just tossed it out.

I know for a fact that these few panels represent MANY hours of fiddling with the software. I think I could produce the same in much less time now, but then I feel weird when I've got a render going only an hour after opening the software. Like, "I used to work harder for this..."
