Our first issue will be released March 2002. The target audience is 2D and 3D digital artists. This magazine will be a high quality publication, in terms of printing and content. It will include exclusive articles, tutorials and showcase the talent of Renderosity artists in a new medium. All contributors will be listed by their Renderosity username and Real Name. The first issue will be 64 pages. This magazine will be unique, with a higher percentage of dedicated content compared to most magazines. We would like to thank the Renderosity Magazine team for their hard work over the last few months to prepare for this launch. We also want to thank those participating artists whose work will be featured in the publication. Our magazine editor is audre. Our assistants include The 4th Party, Little Red, Sorrow, ChromeTiger, MarvinR, and kzarah. If you are interested in helping out, please drop our editor a line. We are currently developing a select group of advertisers to partner with us in this publication. If interested, please email us at or call us at 615-333-7775 ext 22. The magazine will be delivered initially via direct mail. We are now taking Subscriptions online or Single Orders. The first issue will include a CD containing a selection of free products from the Renderosity Marketplace merchants. The first 1000 subscribers will be recognized by username in the first issue as Charter Subscribers. We hope you share our excitement to see the expertise and work of Renderosity artists featured in this new medium. Like you, we know that Renderosity artists are among the best in the world. We intend to feature their work in a quality publication that will be collected and treasured for a long time.

Great News... it's nice to see a Web site create a magazine for a change. You've got a tough road ahead of you, but I have the uptmost conficence that you'll succeed!

This is a wonderful idea, it will at least show other people what great artist we have here and maybe open a whold new world for them. We will also place our subscription to help this further. Sharen (SAM'S 3D)

What? No free subscription for the winners? That seems kinda odd,i hope this will be avalible at newstands so we can check it out first before we commit to a sub. This is cool though...I hope.

Very cool! I just hope it's not always full of the artwork of the few "favorite son's" so to speak. At least give some others a chance :). Neat idea :). Laurie

Great Idea, but I must say that the pricing is rather excessive for 4 magazines for everyone else in other countries... I do realise that it does cost a considerable amount of money to produce these things but still must voice this.

This sounds like a pretty good thing!! I've placed my suscription, maybe the first from germany ; ) Jutta

I'd just like to know if it will be carried in Australian newsagents... anyone know?

Would love to subscribe, but like many international magazines, it's too expensive for us here in Aus (in fact, a little more than other 3D mags). However, you have my full support. If you need a pro proof reader, please contact me. I'm currently focussing on eliminating the embarrasing abundance of grammatical errors in top-of-the-line publications worldwide.

Wow this is really going to rasie up the chart with, hey count me in!

FrankB ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 11 December 2001

Hmm, this is $16 for 64 pages on international shipment, out of which maybe 32 pages would be ads. Nice idea, but can't do that, though. cheers, FrankB

ralphmanis ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 11 December 2001

Very Cool!

pendarian ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 11 December 2001

It sounds good, but would love to see an example of content if possible before deciding to subscribe. I mean is it going to be the same info that is already on the front page? If so, no thanks, I'll read it on the web for free. Also would like to know how the artists that are featured are going to be decided upon. As was already said before...would like to see something other then the "favorite sons", there is so much unrecognized talent in these galleries, it's amazing. Can you give us more info then the advertising spiel that you have on the linked page? Enquiring minds want to know!! Thanks :) Pendy

I love the idea. A pitty I live in the Netherlands... As Frank stated, $16 /magazine is a lotta money. But it is $40 for a year subscribtion and that's $10 a piece... So then I would only pay $2 more per magazine. Ok, time to cut the economics... "We'll see..." is what he said.

kelley ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 11 December 2001

I'm for it.

Irish ( posted at 12:00AM Tue, 11 December 2001

I would very much love to subscribe but this is going to be just a tad out of my reach! I live in Canada so you have to jack up the price I would pay in exchange, plus we have to tack on another $20 you state. This would make your magazine just a little too rich for my blood but I sure do wish you success! Irene

I think it is an excellent idea not only to show support for this forum but the great artists that make it up. You have my sub. Audre, good luck, if anyone can do it you can!

dukduk ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 12 December 2001

Well folks, I'd love to, but.... $8/64 pages (probably half of which is ads) is a bit steep for a college student's budget. I'd like to voice my agreement though with the people who think it's a good idea, and I'd like to know if you intend to hit newsstands with this publication (maybe even just those in the US at first, if cost is the issue). I'd also like to see maybe some preview of content that will be in the mag before I decide to plunk down my hard-earned/barely-saved moolah. And for my last rant ("Yes, applause is allowed at this time.")...I'd have to agree with the fact that it'd certainly be nice to see more folks in the magazine than just the "favorite sons (or daughters, for that matter)". Hmm...that seems to be a favorite quote on this her page, doesm't it? Oh, yes, one final thing ("Oh, go boo and hiss at someone else!") you intend to sell single copies of this magazine? ~~~Duk~~~

great idea

rathbone ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 12 December 2001

Sounds like a good idea and I wish it great success. I would like to think that sooner rather than later I could pick it up in a shop and flick through it first before handing over my cash. The idea is a sound one but you shouldn't concentrate your efforts on supreme master artists, consider those just starting out, the begginers as well. And I think it should reflect the wide range of the site...all or as many different programs should be represented as well as giving space to begginers as well as the more experinced artists. I hope it does well, good luck to everyone working on the project. --Rath--

thanks for taking the time to leave your comments, and raise your concerns about the magazine. i'de like to address a few of those issues that were brought up. first off, the motto for the magazine is "NO FLUFF". if you doubt that, just ask anyone who is working on it with me and they can show you the lash marks where i've beaten them about this chuckle... seriously, we don't intend on putting anything in this magazine that won't benefit the members of renderosity in some way. the emphasis IS on using the digital tools represented in this community and helping everyone create better art. to those of you who assume 1/2 will be ads, you are wrong. we are limiting the number of ads and working to make those that we do allow from people who's products are of interest to this community. because of this, we really are counting on reciprocating support from this community to keep on creating more magazines. also, somone mentioned 'playing favorites' when selecting artwork to feature... my response to this fear is that our intent is to make every member want to purchase the magazine so it is in our best interest to feature artwork which is clearly well done without regard to who created it! it would be self-defeating for this whole venture if we picked images that weren't good! finally, our goal is to feature articles which address all of the tools in use here. we may not be able to cover every software package in every issue, but we will certainly do our best to feature them all at one time or another... again, no favorites based on what WE think, we will be going by what YOU ask for and which forums are the most active to gage possible content. if you see a need for a certain tutorial.. tell us. if you see an image that blows you away and want to know how they did it.. ask us and we'll try to find out for you. be proactive and help us make this the magazine YOU want. really. i mean that. don't be bashful. wink so, email us!

Cool. It will be so good to get something in your hands to read on the bus or train. My only concern is.. Is or will it be available to UK members or other parts of the world.

Lucy_Fur ( posted at 12:00AM Wed, 12 December 2001

Well, I've subscribed & have high hopes for the content and usable of the magazine. If it is in any way a reflection of the site, I feel it will be worth the money I've spent. My only bad feeling about this is the much higher international rate.

Moonbiter ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 13 December 2001

I'm really psyched about this mag, since it is nearly impossible to get my PC into the bathroom where most of my deep reading occurs! :)

T.Rex ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 13 December 2001

Great! Finally! I have Computer Graphics World and 3DArtist since 1991. I want to subscribe NOW(!), but must pay by means of international check. To whom shall it be made out and to which address should it be sent? What's the international rate? T.Rex

mertext ( posted at 12:00AM Thu, 13 December 2001

What about those who write articles for the mag. I heard rumur they will get a free copy of the issue that there article is in. Is this true and if so will it be a full issue(CD included). Yes I here the osity CD is going to be in the Osity Mag.

This is fantastic. Now Ill be able to show people examples of the artwork here at Renderosity without having to drag them into my office to show it to them. ;~) The only problem I can see so far is that there is so much incredible artwork here that a 64 page magazine just isnt big enough to cover it. You, Audre, and the people working with you will be hard put to select which artwork to include in the magazine. You could publish an issue a week and not put a dent in the A list of artwork. Well, I cant wait for the first issue. Have fun. Ray
