Nyala is the Artist of the Year for 2017.
Nyala joined Renderosity in 2008. Now she has over 100 followers for her growing gallery of fantasy portraits and landscapes. Exotic and beautiful warriors, witches and elves are rendered with great attention to detail, especially lighting. Color is also something Nyala pays attention to as several of her portraits are suffused with bold primary colors. Her work is filled with emotion and feeling. It's one of the things that make her work stand out from other artists. Nyala lives in Germany with her husband and two children. She is a passionate reader particularly of the fantasy genre.
We have a short interview where Nyala talks about how important reading and books are to her. We also have a video gallery of 13 of Nyala's gallery images.
Interview with Nyala
How did reading become so important to you? Do you have a particular place in the house where you read?
Nyala: Books! You could almost say that I am addicted to books. If other rest in a spa or gone fishing, I read a book. It does not matter where I read - on the sofa, at the beach, in a bus, in bed or at the bathroomfloor. I read every day, even if it's just a few pages. I have a more then thousand books from all genres. But most of all, I like to read fantasy, thrillers and books from the horror genre.
Last year I read books by George R. R. Martin, Terry Pratchett, Joanne K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins, Markus Heitz, Wolfgang Hohlbein, Cornelia Funke, C.S. Lewis and many more. It's whimsy I know, but I read every year "The Lord of the Rings"- already for over 20 years. Why I read is not so easy to answer. It relaxes me after a stressful day and I love to dive into other worlds. I can fly balloons, participate in middle ages tournaments or save the world. Today I can help the police in the investigation of a crime and tomorrow I could be the criminal himself. With books you can get into a different role every day - that's why. :)

How does reading and books influence your work as an artist?
Nyala: When I read books, I get a picture of the characters in my thoughts. Dimples, freckles, scars - which face has the person and which facial expressions? I like to be inspired by my favorite book characters or try to capture them in my pictures. It's an exciting process to make a character out of the books to 3d "reality".
Again, a big congratulations to you for being voted Artist of the Year, Nyala!
Nyala: I was very surprised to be chosen as Artist of the Year. I thank everyone who voted for me and I' very very happy. I never thought that I had the slightest chance of winning. I'm rendering since 2008 and DAZ has been a passion of mine all these years. Hold on to your dreams - some come true. :)
