Description

Found some data on my hard drive that I imaged back in December. This is the Orion Nebula. If you've looked up at the Orion Constellation, and have noticed Orion's belt, there is the sword hanging down (or up if you're in the Southern Hemisphere), consisting of three "stars". The middle star of Orion's sword is appears to be a little smudgy and is actually this Nebula. The image has been heavily processed in Photoshop and CCDsoft. The image was aquired with a Celestron 11" 'scope using a Meade 80mm refractor as a guide scope. (The guide scope exhibited a little differential flexure, resulting in some imperfections, notably the roundness of the stars). The camera used was a borrowed SBIG STL11000, using LRGB filters. I would have liked to have used it a little bit longer so that I could have achieved a better image and not have to resorted to so much post-processing to bring out the detail!
