Description

Continuing the space theme after bpmac (Bruce) looking down and eonite (Dick) looking up. Here's another one with Lens Correction applied in PS, just enough to give the horizon a curvature but not to otherwise noticeably distort. I've uploaded a fairly large dimension image so you can see the nice qualities of water, transparency, and coastline. Water roughness is turned all the way up but foam can be seen only in extended shallow areas. This gives experienced users an idea how high the elevation is set. The actual number is 28120 meters. The horizon still does not look quite natural, like sphere. It still seems to drop off abruptly and I think I'll try some other surface selections to see if it can look more realistic.

Nice pioneering work! I like the subtleties of the water and the sun beams. However you are right. It kind of looks as though the surface ended abruptly. IMO the lighting could be improved too. I suppose that the actual Voyager sun is higher up in the sky. When I look at the position of the visible sun the shadows should be much longer. Also the lit areas are too bright, as well as the water. As the Voyager sun cannot with the current version be turned off, I think it would help to actually make 2 renders. One for the surface with the Voyager sun very low and another one for the sky.

This is interesting Tino. It does show that the design of the software is such that realism is lost as the camera climbs. MojoWorld does not have this problem. Planets can be shot from space with little effort. Maybe a future version of Voyager will address this issue.

Yes indeed, great pioneering work. This is something I would love for Voyager to be able to do. You could add some clouds fairly easily on a new layer in PS either with brushes or using Alien Skin plugins... Nice.
