Description

Well, this is the kinds of stuff I do for RL work. It's all modeled in 3D studio Max, off real construction plans - as a visual aid for the upcoming construction of road widening. It's a bummer these guys never care to take it to the next level, and want to use more refined textures and lighting etc... I may expand on it myself - eventually. I know, nowhere near as fun and tiltilating as making artistic renders. But, it pays the bills.

I think it fascinating to see how the 3D art form can find its way usefully into real world applications. Art is nice, but as you say, this helps pay the bills and may not seem, on the surface, as finished or as flashy as we might do other things, it is a work of art none the less, in that it is the art of the craftsman or woman plying their trade.

Yes, could use more nudity. Otherwise, 'tis a fine piece of gainful employment.

I like it. I actually got into 3D modeling and rendering so I could do stuff like this for a home building company I used to work for (before the market tanked). But, go figure, I never did anything constructive - just played around. I like to see how projects like this are done. Thanks for sharing!

Actually you would be suprise how many people that do "renders"wish they could actually create in programs like 3D Studio max! Cant wait to see what you do with it. Excellent work so far :)

Pretty cool. How difficult would it be to import the scene (or objects) into Vue. Not that I can figure out how to use Vue very well myself, but it seems to me that you could use it's ecosystem capabilities to grow grass on the medians, and to get realistic trees, and then use its lighting and atmosphere.

I find it fascinating too. First, it does what it's designed to do, showing the details of the plan. But it could also be the basis for a great 'realistic' image. I agree with AnAardvark, might be great in Vue.

I think that it could be very exciting... For instance, the yellow car is turning with no traffic lights working it could be that a car is coming from the left ! or maybe that guy that is not in the crosswalk might be a cop!! Watch out for that!! and driver does not have his left signal light! on many things exciting could happen !!! LOL just kidding Connie, {^^], I think you did a terrific job on this ! Very nice! and I don't find it boring at all.[^^] Cheers, Roger

Thanks for wonderful comments everyone. I'm trying to load this into cararra (and/or Vue) but exporting it is giving me some trouble. I'd love to try painting an eco system on it. I'm just demoing Vue at the moment, so I have no clue what I'm doing with it yet. If anyone wants to try experimenting on this with me, drop me a PM, we can talk. :)

I think this is very cool. How wonderful that you can pay the bills doing something you enjoy. Of course these days if you can pay the bills you are lucky. Fantastic. I love the scale of it.

Wow, that's really cool. Great to see 3D at work. I am just reading this great book, "Traffic: Why we drive the way we drive and what it says about us". Anyway, your image here ties right into the chapter I'm in right. Thanks for sharing this.

Not boring at all - I've always been a fan of the SimCity franchise, still hoping for a full 3d version with a complex and accurate traffic simulation. Really interesting scene, in spite of an obvious lack of hitchhiking pinup girls :-).
