Blacksmith3D & Texture Transformer F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2026 Feb 18 1:10 am)
Thank you RAMWolff for your suggestion, hope that Renderosity will put it on the list.
Concerning Transparency (cornea, eyeslash,...), just plug the Map in the transparent channel and set to 100%. Then hit shortkey "r" and "G" to see the effect. Concerning bump maps, you can easily create them: Import your color diffuse map in the map tab, rename it "name_Bump", plug it to the bump channel and back in the map tab, select it, right click and turn it to grayscale. Your base bump is created. You can add some details with your own brushes. You can do the same for specular and blur it with the blur tool.
Hope it helps,
Best regards
Thanks so much Another question I have... I'm working with Genesis 8 Male and of course he uses UDIM UV's. I just imported my "Paint" version (a lighter version of G8M without inner mouth and what not) into BS and said NO to wrapping as I don't want the maps stacked but when I try to apply (drag and drop) my Gino maps onto his Torso it just fills it with white but when I click on the color map info for the Torso under Materials it shows that the map is applied. So not understanding what's going on here.
I do have the Blacksmith basic tutorial set I bought but the author speaks French as his native language so his pronunciation and his slowness to explain things as he's searching in my mind for the right words to speak ... it's like watching paint dry. No offense to him intended but it got annoying after about 25 minutes. sigh So any help with understanding this a bit more and if there are tutorials out there that you can point me too, I love video's if possible, please let me know. I'm using the most up to date version of BS by the way!
Thank you! Richard

Hello RAMWolff, Just check that your " paint version" as its UV correctly set like the original. Then, when importing your map by drag and drop, a popup appears. When BS3D ask to apply to the whole torso material, check "yes". IF UV are still there, material name unchanged, your map should apply correctly.
There are all the video tutorial concerning BS3D on youtube.
Sorry if i bored you with my tutorial.....
Best regards,
Hmmmmmm I did all that correctly. SO that's strange to me that it wasn't applying to the torso. Say's it's applied but is white in the viewport. Your tutorial isn't boring, my mind works fast and it just seems I need more patience is all.

Is there no way to view the UV's within BS? If it does fully support UDIM it would be nice to have a way to select on a body part and have the UV show.
Also is there a way to have the mouse middle button, scroll the view port in and out? That would speed up work flow a bit more rather than clicking on the icons constantly

Hello RAMWolff,
For scrolling, in the tool panel, there is a mouse wheel area, open it and check navigation zoom. You will be able to scroll in and out rapidly.
There is no UV view in bs3d. You can check in DAZ by material in the camera view at the top right of the viewport. As it is UVDIM, the best would be in a UV editor (unfold3d, uvmapper or unwrap3d) or a modeling tool (hexagon (free), silo, ....) Could you make a screenshot, maybe it will be easier to understand.
Best regards,
Thanks for all the help!
In your Basic tutorial set which one gives the most info on projection painting or is that in your Advanced set of tutorials?
Also, think it's pretty cool that one can load a .DUF file directly into BS and have all the maps and set up come in with it!

Also, is there a way to tell BS to save my zoom mouse option? Having to remember that each time is a bit of an inconvenience. I ALWAYS in EVERY 3D program have my mouse set to zoom with the scroll wheel.

Hello RAMWolff,
The "Brush tile setup" part was in the advanced part. Sorry, it is not sold anymore. I did many mini tut on it in the forum to answer. Here is one recent example: https://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/?thread_id=2925521
To load directly a complete duf, set first your character with the 3Delight shader before exporting it. Everything will be in place while loading in blacksmith3D
Hope it replies,
Best regards,
OK, thank you.
So if there is no way to save the Zoom mouse with middle button/scroll operation can that please be added to the suggestions box for the next update?
Thank you

So when one buys a premade texture MR set and does their thing to make the set their own but the set doesn't come with bump or specular or glossy maps it would be nice to have Blacksmith create these maps on the fly with options strengthen, blur, lighten, darken and so on. Like if I select the drop down for Bump maps there is nothing there when importing in these MR maps but would be nice to have a little button "generate bump maps" and then up pops a dialog with options as mentioned above.
Also is there no way to have the transparency active in the viewport to show what eyelashes look like or a way to turn off the cornea layer to see the eye maps properly?? See below.
Thank you Richard
