Subject: How to Save a multiple part prop as a Smart prop?

Dreamdesigner ( ) posted Mon, 29 February 2016 at 7:20 PM · edited Sat, 16 March 2024 at 12:44 AM

Hi Friends; My question maybe looks a bit stupid but sometimes simple things can gives us a Headache! :-)That's the question; For example; I have a multi part Rifle model ( rifle body-Trigger-Bolt) I want o make this rifle as simple rigged prop and I want to save as a smart prop that parented to V4 and M4 's Hands! But,When you try to save a multiple part prop as a smart prop,Poser couldn't do this! When you try to save, poser didn't ask that typical question " do you want to save this prop as a smart prop?" So, You couldn't save that multiple part rigged rifle model as a smart prop! Is there anyone to know How can I save a multiple part prop as smart prop??If anyone can help I'll be really glad :-) Thanks in advance friends.. Happy rendering

I just went in and tried to re-create your issue and get the same problem. I could save the prop and its smart prop components but not as a smart prop to a figure. What about grouping?

Parent all the other prop partss to one prop as the base, then parent the base prop to the hand ??

That's what I did with a few primitives and the base prop wouldn't save as a smart prop.

You have to manually edit the prop file to include the smartprop key word.

Hi friends; Thank you for your effort to help I really appreciated,As Kendra's said we couldn't solve this matter with poser,But I think PhilC is right,Actually,Last year I was tried to change that key word in the prop file,But I couldn't be successful exactly,I mean; I was work on a helmet prop with movable front visor! After the saving that helmet as a prop,I tried change "smartprop" keyword in the file but result was interesting: Poser accept that multi partial helmet as a smart prop but this time when I call the prop for the M4/V4's head xyz coordinates of the helmet was not correct?? I'm not good on Python script and maybe I made a mistake!I don't know? But if Dear PhilC can be tell me how should I do this exactly, I can solve this in a correct way this time :-) Thanks in advance for all kind of help :-) Cheers Kemal

replace the Line: "parent UNIVERSE" with "smartparent lHand:1" if you want to parent it to the hand as an example, using a text editor. if you have a saved multipe prop that has other props parented to it then these lines are already correct. the line Parent universe is the line of the first Prop and needs to be changed. after changing replacing the line you will get a working smartprop with all attached parts.
