Jan 02, 2016 at 12:00 am by KimberlyC

Congratulations on being picked the Member of the Month, WandW!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let's get to know you a bit better!

Does your username hold a special meaning to you or at all?

WandW: My username is actually 'W & W' (not 'Wanda W, as some seem to read it as!), which is short for 'Wilmington and Western' which is a scenic railroad in Delaware. I have always been interested in trains and railroad history, and have built N-Scale model trains since I was in high school. When I lived in Delaware, the western terminus of the W & W R.R. was a few blocks from my house.

What software(s) do you favor (use the most)?

WandW: I mostly use Poser, currently Poser 11 Pro. I started out in 3D with DAZ Studio 1.8, but moved to Poser 7 within a couple of months. However, I still use Studio from time to time, lately often to get content into Poser. For postwork I use Paint Shop Pro in Windows, and Gimp and ShowFoto on my Linux machine.

When did you join Renderosity?

WandW: I joined Renderosity in late 2007, which is around the time I started with DAZ Studio.

How long have you been doing art?

WandW:I have always enjoyed drawing and building models. My first encounter with CGI was in Graduate School in 1990. Now, this was back in the day where simply decoding a jpeg file on a typical PC took many seconds, but I had a colleague who had access to a Sun workstation in the Protein Modeling Lab, and we would play with the renderer; I believe it was Rayshade. My more recent interest came about from happening across a render by Kozaburo, and wondering how it was made. It was this image here... http://digitalbabes.jp/gallery/Lori.html

How do you feel your art defines you?

WandW: I really don't consider myself an Artist, but more of an Artisan. My sig line contains the following quote from Ted 'Bagginsbill' Czotter; “I could buy better software, but then I'd have to be an artist and what's the point of that?” I tend to concentrate on techniques rather than finished works, so I have a lot of scenes that would be considered half done. This isn't limited to CG art; my model train layout is mostly track and trains on bare wood, with little scenery at this point, so I guess it is a character trait. I'm sort of a “Jack of All Trades, Master of None,” although I do have a Masters Degree. Also, I I've learned so much from the Forum, and I enjoy having the opportunity give advice and so 'pay forward' for the help I've gotten , and continue to get, from other more experienced Artists.

Can tell us a bit more about yourself?

WandW: I'm originally from the Midwestern US, but have lived in the Southwest and Mid-Atlantic, and currently live in New England. I have a Master's Degree in Chemistry, and my most recent job was doing formulation and performance testing of dyes and inks for digital imaging, both for consumer and business desktop use, and for large-format graphic art and textile printing; you almost certainly have used products I've had a hand in. However, I left to stay at home and raise our kids while my wonderful wife continued her career, which has been a joy. I enjoy carpentry, auto repair and building computers, so I'm pretty busy. I also enjoy the Outdoors and regularly do some hiking and camping. In the attached picture, I'm at the top of Mt. Monadnock in New Hampshire..
