A 3D Artist since the 1990's, wow, I'm old. My first venture into 3D was back with Adobe Dimensions. Not my first choice but it came free with an Illustrator upgrade but since I worked for a newspaper...that was as good as it was going to get. Fast forward a few years later and I discovered Strata 3D, and now the 3D world was opening up.
Even with its limitations, I pushed each model to the limits. It was my mainstay for both personal and professional work for many years. Until one day an Art Director asked me, what can we do to make you're already great 3D work look even better?
Still working in newspapers I knew Maya wasn't a possibility but Lightwave became the next best option.
I've stuck with Lightwave now for my main 3D model tool. For models based more in nature, I'd taken to the sculpting tools of Blender. Even if it feels redundant, I use Adobe Substance Designer.
For the most part when it comes to editing I've become a big fan of Luminar NEO to help create more artistic looks.
When I'm not living in a 3D world, I've gotten back into more physical art like painting, sculpting and resin molds.
As if that's not enough, I've been working in the professional headshot/event photography world for the past eight years.
I find that I utilize a lot of the same techniques for lighting my 3D model environments.
