How did you get started in 3D Graphics? I had always been interested in filmmaking and then a few years back I saw Killer Bean 2. I loved the look and the style of this short so I decided to start learning about 3D animation. Since that time Ive completed 2 animated shorts, one live action short, and Im currently working on my third animated short. I learned modeling because I couldnt always find the models that I needed for my work. How long have you been working with 3D Graphics? About 3 years. Do you have any formal training? Not in 3D Graphics. I learned through tutorials, manuals, and trial and error. I do have a B.S. in Computer Science and I work for a large software company. What software do you use for product development? For modeling I use max, uvmapper, AutoGroup Editor, QuickConform, PMorphTools, and Poser. Since I also develop software products I would add that I use C++ for their development. How much time is required for product development? This varies depending on the complexity of the product. A product like Japanese Warrior outfit required maybe two weeks, while Clothes Converter took several months of research and development. Can you give a brief overview of your development cycle for a new product? I come up with an idea for what I want to model then make some rough sketches. I always start with a single cube and add details from there (this is the box modeling method). Once Im done modeling I use AutoGroup Editor for grouping and QuickConform for conforming. I then tweak the joint params in Poser followed by uvmapping using uvmapper and then I create morphs using PMorphTools. Where does your inspiration come from when developing new products? I typically make things that I want to use. If other people find them useful as well then thats great. Sometimes I see an obvious need (like Clothes Converter) and try to fill that need. Do you have any advice for aspiring Digital Content Developers? Make quality products and the rest will take care of itself. Always remember to have fun :). How has Renderosity's on-line community played a role in regards to your products, friendships and learning? I dont remember how I found Renderosity, but the members here helped me a lot when I was first learning Poser. Im also inspired by some of the great artwork in the galleries. Do you have any final words? Thanks to all of my customers. Your support is greatly appreciated.
