Congratulations to outoftouch for being Renderosity's Vendor of the Month for January!
As I've interviewed you a number of times already, can you briefly tell us a bit about yourself and if there is anything you might wish to share with the community?
I'm a mid-twenty boy who slowly loses lots of hair. Isn't that a point where you say: "you're getting old"?!
I'm living together with my girlfriend in Northern Germany and I love monkeys. Sometimes I even wish to be one ;-) I love listening to music, I love making music with friends, rather electronic than acoustic. In fact, beneath Poser, music is my biggest hobby. I'm grateful I can totally accomplish my inspiration and feelings in my work, I'm happy I got the chance to make my hobby into my job, and what makes it even better is getting wonderful feedback from customers using my work in their arts.
Can you give us some hints on what you may be currently working on?
We are working on a big, big project that sits here for 1 & 1/2 years now. I'm proud to be part of it, I just can't tell anything yet.
What software is currently in your digital toolset and what could you not do without?
My toolset mostly consists of Cinema 4D, Photoshop, ZBrush, UV Mapper, and of course, Poser. Surely, Poser is the one I could not do without, but also ZBrush became one of my most used applications.
Where do you find inspiration for your products, and do you have any particular favorite among the products you've created?
I'm getting inspiration from everyone. Music, Musicvideos, Designers, TV, walking on the street, going shopping. A particular favorite is hard to pick because I have a special connection to any product in my store, but maybe the EURO Fever project I did together with Shana is one my recent favorites. It was the biggest project I ever did, and even though I'm not interested in soccer at all, this work was amazing.
Can you tell us a bit about your creative process, and are there any workflow tips you might wish to provide?
After finding the idea and inspiration for something new, I start modelling a draft version of all parts and then go finalizing the models first. UV mapping follows and that is one of the most important steps in my work. Since I started this business with just texturing, I know how a UV template can make or break a model. I spend lots of time mapping my models to achieve a perfect UV template that can be easily textured. After that, I set up the Poser figures and start doing morphs, most of the time by hand in ZBrush, sometimes with magnets. Once all the technical stuff is done, I export UV templates to Photoshop and start doing the textures. Sometimes, on that point it is where my models leave my desk and go over to my partner Shana - she does amazing textures!
I do not have any special workflow tip, as I always change my workflow to improve it. I do not yet really have the perfect workflow, as it is different from product to product.
Can you list a couple of your personal favorites from your store and tell us a bit about them?
THE BACK product line - This is a project I have spent lots of time developing on. My goal was to create a background scenery for Poser that easily fills scenes with just a few clicks and adds a variety of emotions to an artwork. Each background setting comes with a matching light to really bring the mood of the background image to the whole Poser scene.
ONE MILLION PEARLS - A project that most probably never came to an end? It did! We worked on it for a very long time and ilona did an outstanding job posing every single little pearl perfectly onto V4's body. I love the really glamorous and fragile look.
SHOOT 12: Miss Independence + Expansions - Even though I have never been there, I love anything about they NY lifestyle. The architecture, the streets, and surely Lady Liberty. On top of that, I'm always here for doing something crazy, something that is not common in the market. To celebrate 4th of July, Shana and I created the "Miss Independence" products. The special thing about this product is that it just can be a glamorous "beauty queen" outfit or, with the expansions, a nice Lady Liberty costume with fun props.
SHOOT 11: EURO Fever - As mentioned above, this was one of the biggest projects I ever created. Shana and I went crazy on that one, we just couldn't stop. I love everything about it, "Michelle" the sexy character with bodypaintings, the props + poses package, or the outfit with all those different texture options.
SHOOTBabes Nikita - This was somehow of a comeback creating characters for me, our goal was to create a really tough lady with a sexy attitude. I'm really happy how Nikita turned out, especially with the SHOOT 11: Punched outfit, props and hair she definetaly is the tough lady noone wants to struggle with ;-)
Do you have any advice for anyone wishing to start in Digital Content Development?
The most important thing in developing digital content is to always develop your skills. Learn here, learn there. There is just no limit of learning things and stuff that can be done better. I'm a really self-critical person and once I finish a product I ask myself: "is this good enough?" If I find something that isn't, I go back and change it. Never stop learning, try to experiment as much as you can and you will see: you can do things you never thought you could.
Do you have any final words or advice for other artists/vendors?
This is the part to say THANK YOU to our customers, to my partners and to the whole Renderosity team for rolling this thing so well! As for the artists: let your inspiration flow and always try to do the best you can. :)---------------------------------------------------------------------
