Our Artist of the Month for January 2023 is FLIPART. He is a talented artist with a flair for 2D image creation. His themes are science fiction, superheroes and horror. Flipart brings a great sense of color and composition to all of his work. Although he’s come to Renderosity fairly recently, he’s already making a strong impression with his excellent work.
We have a short interview with Flipart below, along with a video gallery that features 10 of his gallery pieces.
Renderosity: What brought you to Renderosity?
Flipart: I am a returning artist to Renderosity I had the user name Baal years back, so once I decide to start posting again I came back.
Science fiction and fantasy are the two themes in your gallery: what about these two genres interests you so much?
Sci-fi and fantasy just fits me, with it you can hit so many other genres, horror, action, and so on.
Dream is the most viewed image in your gallery: how did you create this image and what was your workflow?
Dream was made using an image I made in Affinity, the original had more details and was sharper, but I used that character and re-brushed photoshop. As I make the Art in layers it’s easy to reuse them.
What tools do you use to create your images?
What do I use? Well, Affinity, Photoshop, and Manga studio. I have had a dabble with nightcafe for some backgrounds and have done 1 or 2 characters in it but they do need a lot of rework to fix errors, like 2 heads, bad hands and extra lambs.
What are you working on now?
I am doing a lot of video game characters lately but adding a twist to them like spiderman with his skin that becomes his outfit, changing male to female, it's fun to just mix it up and make new outfits for them.
Any advice for digital artists just starting out?
The advice I can give is just to be you. Use any free tool you can get your hand on, Gimp is a superb tool, Affinity is inexpensive and in my opinion beats PS hands down, for the bulk of things but I still use it for some projects as it has all my brushes in it lol. Oh and lighting getting that right is very important if there is light you need shadow, Daz, and Poser, are good but you need to set the lighting up right or it just washes out your work.
I am happy members like my work and for this opportunity to give back and help up-and-coming artists.
