Description
It was Perseus, who was charged with the task of slaying Medusa. She was difficult to kill because those who regarded her directly were immediately turned into stone. However, Perseus was able to approach Medusa whilst she slept. He advanced toward his prey whilst keeping an eye on her reflection in his polished shield - for it was possible to look at the monster indirectly. With his sword, he cut off Medusa's head and put it into a sac...
The Medusa is one of those favorite monsters that have been represented in art innumerable times. Everybody knows Caravaggio's brilliant painting of the Gorgon, or is, at least, familiar with her image in the cinema. In this, my first version of Medusa, I wanted Medusa's face to be beautiful and serene, and I wanted her hair of snakes to be repulsive. I also wanted the background to echo the foreground, so, in the background, I added a single wild rose amongst many nasty looking thorns.
The picture was made with graphite pencil on paper and then colored with PhotoShop.
I'm thinking about making a 3d version of this image... just thinking about it at this stage!

Very nice picture; but your version looks like quite a nice person - not the absolutely foul and terrifying monster of the myth?
So nice....magnificent work
CDBrugg - You are quite right... I am incapable of creating an 'absolutely foul and terrifying monster'... I always try to see the good in everything and everyone! lol ! Ah well, maybe in my next life I'll be better able to create monsters... Thank you so much for your comment. :)
