Hello,
Born with the end from first half of the XVIIe century, the Carnival of Rio is called initially "entrudo". Odd word nowadays, and almost completely forgotten, which wants to say (in Latin, introitus) "entry" in English. The entrudo wanted also to say, the entry, the beginning of the Lent. It were the entertainments of the carnival to the old style : one launched out flour, water, painting, but also blows of sticks... What returned it sometimes, even often, enough aggressive. Reason for which, later, it will be prohibited by the authorities. In Brazil, the entrudo was in vogue at the beginning of the XXe century.
