Description

This is another recreation of a memory from my childhood on our Kansas family farm. In those days (late 1940's), there were very few state lakes or large federal reservoirs and the July and August air was fairly dry and hot--99 to 115 degrees. (Today it is much more humid and the temperatures are mostly under a 100 degrees. My twin brother, Steve, and I were around ten years of age, then. There were not creeks or rivers on our farm, just watersheds that sometimes had a shallow muddy pool, usually hardly big enough to get in, let alone try to swim in it. The farmhouse had running water ("Jerry, get the bucket and go fill it!") Yeah, that kind of running water. We didn't have a shower and our tub was a galvanized one just big enough to sit in with your legs drawn up against your butt. Neither my brother or me got to town more than a couple of times a summer, so there was no municiple pool for swimming. Our solution was to use the watering tank for the cattle. It was very refreshing to take a dip in it. Sort of like an outdoor jacuzzi without the poweful water jets. Usually the water was sun-warmed. There was always a lot of algae in it and some scum. We liked to watch the water beetles and try to catch them. Sometimes, we made madeshift boats out of scraps of wood, or splashed each other--one reason why there is less water in the tank we are using and why so much of the surrounding ground is soaked. I don't think my Uncle Ford appreciated that too much, but he rarely said anything about it. Mom usually made us wash off thoroughly after we got back to the house. The windmill and the barbed wire fence are Net downloads. Don't remember who made the windmill, but the barbed wire fence is by Mark Feemster. I retextured both and thinned out the wire (and added an fourth string of wire to the fence). Weeds are by Transpond. Thanks, Chris and Judith! Figures are Millinium Boy (PT). Hair is DAZ short hair. Tree is Old Wood figure. Pipes and tanks are by me. There are about 10 Bryce 5 terrains, believe it or not. Thanks for looking! Jeremy
