Description
The Passenger
I saw him sat there,
Watching the world,
drift by,
groups of callow youths
huddle,
bodies cupped around hands,
hands cupped around cigarettes
He watches them as I watch him
seeing without feeling,
for we are passengers,
The people who do not quite care
about living,
Who go on dragging their bodies around
out of habit,
who fill their mouths
without hunger,
Who walk without any real destination,
who make love without love
and hate without rancour-
because, after all, they are only passengers
by chance,
because, after all, they never asked
to be born,
because, after all, they do not follow
their stars
They are the passengers.
Their skin is the colour of shadows.
They stand as amazed as statues in a sculptors courtyard.
They do not want your love.
It can not save them.
Now I am opening my hand
to the air and water.
Now I am losing the memory of pain.
Now my hand forgets
how to make a fist.
Now I am easy,
death is in my palm.

WOW! This is creative and awesome! Textures, lighting are perfect, it's emotionally evoctive...the poem is really good too. What I like most is that this one is wide open to interpretation. It made me think of Pompei, then ghosts of the past...Excellent!
