Description

I made all the layers in bryce with 18000 2D planes with flares on them for the main stars and then several thousands of spheres with different volume textures for the gasses, nebulas and the other little stars. I split the scene up in about 30 layers to reduce rendertime. I composited the layers in PSP. This is my second attempt at making a galaxy (the first one, from more than a year ago can also be found in my galery) and I think I've got it right this time. It's not yet photorealistic, but I think it's good enough now.

The layers took between 5 minutes and 2 hours to render. One layer took 7 hours, but that was because I accidentally entered a wrong digit in the render to disk window and I ended up rendering at 4.3K in stead of 1.3K. I only noticed it after the render finished.
