Description
A new forest boardwalk opened near our area. We came to visit at opening time on a rainy day. Not another soul was around meaning I got this empty section to photograph with moss draped trees and misty clouds. A bit of modern and ancient.

Good shot!
Thanks Rickart, I quite appreciate detailed feedback on how others see my images, critical and supportive. This does have a bit of an AI 'feel' to the wording, not complaining, just curious if you used AI to generate the critique and if so, what the AI tool was. If AI, a very interesting outcome and can't say I disagree.
I am curious to tinker with the dodge and burn to adjust the lighting. It's actually a critique I've had more than once but struggle to get that depth in my photos.
As for the colour grading, not sure I wanted any warmer as it begins to look a little unnatural. This was a new boardwalk with a bright cedar yellow colour that will disappear quickly overtime. I wanted to juxtapose that with the misty green of the forest. I might have played with some layers here to see if I could cool the background keeping the current warmth of the boardwalk itself.
On the final point, it was absolutely intent to have the emptiness here. Part of the story is man's journey into nature but without the presence of actual humans. For those familiar with my neck of the woods, a place like this is almost never without crowds present :)
Very nice capture.
Thank you
Thanks so much for the thoughtful response—really appreciated. Yes, I did use AI and I'm programming it to help structure art critique, actually I'm training it. I’ve been experimenting with it to refine how I give to feedback: keeping it supportive, observational, and modular so it’s easier to reuse across different images. I have also used a bunch of critique books to train it. Glad it resonated!
It would be truly sad that true art, i.e. paintings, photography, music, etc., be replaced by AI directly -- no more Jobs for artists?. On the other hand, I'm thinking that if AI could critique art work, specially my own, I could deliver better art, done and designed directly by me.
Returning to the photograph, your intend with the boardwalk’s warmth and the absence of people came through beautifully. That juxtaposition with the misty forest really works, especially knowing how rare solitude is in that spot. I think your idea of cooling the background while keeping the cedar warmth is a smart way to preserve that contrast without losing realism. If mentioned before to include people, maybe it was to create a story so the eye, the mind and feelings could blend into something else, but it was just an opinion.
What I like the most is the appreciation of depth. The colors are well distributed to see what is near and what is far. As for dodge and burn—totally hear you. It’s one of those techniques that’s deceptively tricky. If you ever want to bounce ideas or test variations, I’d be happy to take a look.
✨ Excellent work—well done! Beautiful composition!! ✨
Thanks very much Rickart, I think it's a good idea you have, to create and AI that will give you photographic feedback. However, as with any photographic feedback, you must balance that with what you intend to take. The very thing you want to achieve might end up being part of the critique because it's outside of the experience or tastes of the observer. The best art looks different than the things we've seen before. It's something that makes us stop, go back, hold our attention, but maybe without quite knowing why.
I might come back to this image and try some different things, but for today, it was a sunny day and so new photographs beckon :)
