Description
Three children had gone into a valley near the school, hoping to find something interesting. It was over three centuries after the Great Machine War, and while the world had never fully recovered, technology had slowly redeveloped to a point where many modern conveniences were available again. However, no one dared to attempt to revive the internet. So, children were back to playing outside for hours while waiting for dinner.
These kids stumbled upon an old bunker, mostly concealed under dirt and plants, and decided to investigate, carefully picked their way through the overgrown foliage. As they walked, they saw huge cables and wires everywhere, all seemingly leading to the same location. Eventually, they reached a large chamber, too dark to really see anything in. One of the children unknowingly stepped on a circular dais, almost tripping, but caught himself and quickly backed up again. However, stepping on the circle had activated some long dormant electronics, and the room lit up suddenly with a harsh artificial light. Now that they could see around them, the children froze as they stared at a menace long thought to have been destroyed - a giant mechanical woman, covered in filth and moss. She appeared to be seated on some kind of throne, staring vacantly at the ground. The kids stood in awe, they had never seen anything like this outside of fuzzy photographs in their history books.
With a sudden sound of electricity powering up a massive machine, red lights began to glow on the mechanism. When they saw one of it’s electronic eyes start to flicker to life, the children turned around and ran as fast as they could, desperate to get out and sound the alarm before it was too late. As their frantic footsteps left the bunker, the mechanism began to slowly move, as if testing its rusted joints. It was in no hurry. It would make sure it was completely repaired and ready before it left to find it’s fellow soldiers…
