Description
The High Seas,... vast,... unclaimed,...
These are the voyages of the Cruiser Columbia. Her mission:
- to maintain freedom of navigation,
- to seek out diplomatic and humanitarian opportunities,
- to boldly promote the reputation of the United States wherever we go.
If that sounds like I'm plagiarizing the opening monologue of Star Trek, the Original Series, then I did it right! That's exactly what I mean to do. I openly acknowledge the inspiration, the Full extent of the role of Gene Roddenberry, the impact of William Shattner, Leonard Nimoy, Deforest Kelly, James Doohan, Nichelle Nichols, Walter Koenig, George Takei, Magel Barrett, Grace Lee Whitney, and on and on and on...
NOTE: References below DO NOT reflect my ideology or politics. They are simply part of an examination of historical events that might, at some point, reasonably lead to the creation of Gene Roddenberry's Starfleet sometime in the future.
High Seas is my next project, already started even though I'm not quite done with Star Trek Too, The Tunnel, yet. This book is intended to be the ultimate prequel to the Star Trek franchise. It is not canon – I don’t have Paramount Pictures’ license, nor do I have a letter from Berman or Roddenberry authorizing me to lay a cornerstone from which the entire franchise proceeds. My intention is to depict the very first baby-step from an earth-Navy toward what - in the Star Trek universe(s) - will eventually become Starfleet.

I noticed also that you were parodying the Star Trek intro before reading it on your webpage. Are you a Trekkie? Ever been to a Star Trek Convention? It's an experience, to be sure. Saw Sulu (he was very nice), Scottie, and others. Once, when James Doohan (Scottie) was on stage ust talking regular to the audience, a fellow from Scotland stood up and complimented him on how accurate his Scottish accent was in the show, that it was more real than actual Scottish people back home. Needless to say, Scottie thanked him profusely and turned on the Scottish accent for the rest of the convention while talking with everyone from the stage. People applauded loudly !!! :o)
Thank you, Sir! Yes I am! I think you might like this: https://asylumreraiders.com/elsewhere/star-trek-too-the-tunnel/ It will definitively answer for you the question whether I'm a trekkie! I'd love to have caught a convention when the others were alive. I'm still interested in seeing one even if Shattner is the only one alive from the original show. Please look at the story I posted! Thank you for answering!
This will be a great "early stepping-stones" precursor to the world of Star Trek, Jim. I like it, and it's really not that far from reality if you think about it. No matter what folks think of Musk, the Space-X rockets that land themselves are a whole new aspect of making space more available. We have things flying all over the solar system, landing on asteroids and bringing samples back, robots still wandering around on Mars, and so on.
If we could just learn how to all of us live on this planet without using other rockets to blow each other up...
Good talking with you tonight.
Thank you for the perspective! I'm working of the last few panels of Star Trek Too right now, I have 4 done today. More to come. Also my backup computer came so I can migrate my work to it and send my Beastie off for repairs (her screen is on the fritz). I will post my work to you on sitemail so I can get a second set of eyes on it before I publish. Get me that stuff for the rest of Chapter seven so we can get you into Chapter 8 before the year runs out.
Hi again, went to the website you mentioned and glanced through it. Will read through it another time, it's late now. But I wanted to tell you about another "fan based" Star Trek production that was produced from 2013 to 2017, with 11 episodes produced. They were entirely written, produced, and ACTED by Star Trek fans in Georgia that loved the show so much, they recreated an exact copy of the Star Trek bridge, paid for with their own money. Here's the link to go to: https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?p=star+trek+continues&fr=yhs-att-att_001&fr2=p%3Aatt%2Cv%3Afp%2Cm%3Asb&type=att_pc_homerun_portal_bucket_anim_nogl&hsimp=yhs-att_001&hspart=att&ei=UTF-8 They are fans that acted the parts themselves, for no pay, and WITH PERMISSION from Paramount to film the episodes, as long as they did not intend to make a profit for themselves using the Star Trek legal rights to ownership. They are so very good, really acted well for not being actors, the stories are superb, and the women in the crew are beautiful !!! The special effects are done great, not amateurish. If you don't know about it, check it out. They've been accepted to also appear at Star Trek conventions along side Hollywood Star Trek actors. Let me know how you like it. Enjoy. :o)
Thank you for the pointer! I was aware and have seen a couple episodes. I was VERY impressed that so many amateurs collaborated at their own expense to do this. I did not know they had Paramount's permission - that's worth following up on. I will see if there is a way to contact them for coaching/help. Perhaps you know something to help me connect?
I see you have adopted a Star Trek handle for use here; what's your story? Where do you fit into all this? What are your ambitions? Feel free to PM me if you don't want your answers public.
Here is a link to directly contact Star Trek Continues: https://www.startrekcontinues.com/contact.html I've been to 3 Star Trek conventions, one of which was the 2nd convention ever held, back in 1975, I think. It's fun, but it's a money pit also, if you go hog wild buying all the souvenirs. The actors are always pleasant with the fans that come to the conventions. Those fans that made the show are located in south Georgia. The realistic bridge, transporter unit, and engineering are still being used as a tourist attraction that people can go see, and EVEN use (if they rent the space) to produce their own Star Trek skit with costumes they've brought and want to act, using their cell phones to record their personal movie. Trekkies have that innate ability to completely lose their minds and become immersed into Star Trek lore. It's fun, though. Gets us away from all the craziness of everyday life, and lets us go crazy in a fun way. Merry Christmas. :o)
Merry Christmas to you too! I'm aware of this attraction and mean to go see it one day. I'm sorry if my question earlier was pushy or awkward - I hoped you were looking to participate in a Star Trek themed work effort and that you might consider participating in what I'm doing - collaboration is fun!
Thank you for the link and the info. The links at the bottom of the page look like they will be especially helpful! I'll hail you there!
