Description

Made with Terragen. No postwork (except sharpen). My attempt to make a realistic looking TG picture. I am not quite satisfied yet, so I would appreciate some advise on how to improve the picture for a second try. What do you think does not look realistic - and what does? Thanks for your help PS. the terrain is DEM file :-)

Absolutely lovely strata (no, it's not to straight, toubab ;-) it's lowered at some places). But i agree about the vegetation distribution (on the left) ... that's the one and only point to improve this excellent picture!

cool pic lars - surface & terrain is perfect - i would try a sundown & darker grass, i think it would be more dramatic, but i'm not sure that the image would be better

pretty realistic, no doubt... and a wonderful pic, too. the only improvements I can think off would be to bend the strata in the background and to add one in the foreground...

WOW this terrain is beautiful! Stratas are very well done and realistic (just the limit strata/no strata is a bit strong) and in fact all textures are wonderful. Just as you said I think greens need a better distribution... Superb water and very nice sky also. A wonderful and excellent work!

strata should only be visible when really steep. This picture shows strata on steep, and the debrit slope. It is a pretty real lookin pic already.

Sehr gutes Bild. Meiner Meinung nach ist das Wasser auch noch zu ruhig.

I like this image, but with a "dramatic sundown canyon version" it could be more interesting, but that is a matter of taste :-)

can this be rendered at 4095 x 4095 terrain and render size? that would be an interesting addition. (My comp wouldn't make it)

Thank you all for your suggestions and comments. I am very gratefull for this. Below is the list of issues until now (yours and my own). I will have a look at it when I have some more time for possible improvements, probably in in about 4 weeks, and then start making a second version.

  • Need better distribution of the greens, especially in the left side.
  • Change to displacement/bend of Strata.
  • The bottom limit/transition between strata/no strata needs to be less evident
  • Make strata visible only on really steep (not the debrit slope)
  • Disable 3D on clouds
  • Add some strata in the front also
  • Make a version with sage/drybush instead of greens
  • A more dramatic "Sundown Canyon" version, with darker grass?
  • Improve light/atm?
  • Some more realism to the textures?
  • Move movement in water?
  • Consider changing picture dimensions eg. to 1024x1024

And a few of my own additional thoughts: - Some of the rock texture down left look a bit "streched".

  • A few sharp edges in the terrain close cliffs (could be fixed with postwork?)
  • change of water color to maybe a bit lighter
  • Consider making a small animation of a flight through the canyon
  • ChristianFly jumping of the cliff with his paraglider ;-)
