Description

I've not played around with Superfly as much as I'd like, so I took some time yesterday to generate a series of "just to see what happens" iterations... just to see what happened. The top left is my 1999 Beastmaster, with Neftis' Mon Chevalier hair. It's rendered in Firefly and IBL and subdivision on. Okay, but nothing special. The other four moved into Superfly, using 1 to (finally) 12 subdivision iterations (with subdivision applied to everything including the eyes and the hair), with IBL in place. It's fascinating — to me anyway — that by the time you reach 12, the skin is far more realistic, the hair softer, almost-but-not-quite pushing this into Uncanny in its way. It's not a technique I'll be using in the comic, but something I found interesting along the way.

I am going to try that once I fully recover from the crash. Thank you for sharing.

What I find interesting is that I prefer lighting of the first one! It has more contrast around his eyes, nose, and mouth. And, of course, it lacks the graininess of a Superfly render! Maybe you should try one of the higher SubD versions with your initial Firefly setup?
