Description

And now for something a bit different in this series. I'm keeping the HeavyLander as the cabin (I just like the way it looks), but I had gone in a different direction for the rear: The HeroShip by 3-d-c. I think these might stylistically fit together better than the other ships in the series, and I do like it. But I think I need a few more renders with both this and the first ship to see which one is easier to work with in terms of lighting and shadows. This is definitely choice #2 at this moment. BUT... what do you guys think? Does this look interesting and does it look like a single model, or just two ships rammed together?

I can't seem to make up my mind. If it was just for a very rough hypothetical exterior silhuette, I'd probably like this version better than #1. But I feel the styles are just too glaringly different, to the point where I do see two ships rammed together; like a Romulan Warbird was inappropriately attracted to something from Star Wars.

To try and make some sense of this: #1 feels like the differences between the front and back elements have a technological reason; they're like the orbiter and the booster stage; they're like something you would reasonably expect from real technology--you got the crew module and some busy tech stuff in the back. This one, on the other hand, feels like the conclusion of a story in which two sworn enemies glue their ships together to get out of an even worse predicament... if that makes any sense.

In a nuthsell: The busy rear-end stuff from #1 (particularly the perpendicular engines at the back) seemed to work much better with the blocky front end. Even the outlines seemed to support that kind of visual continuity, while here, I'm rather seeing a story along the lines: We built the ship outselves, but we had to harvest ancient alien tech to build the space drive to go with it.

It looks like a coherent whole to me, but then, I'm not versed in the various details of space ships!

Yeah, I'm pretty much in line with your preferences... #1 first, and this one as a close #2. I like the look of both of them, and the do look like they came like this, and not kitbashed. Great job, Mike!

Excellent webinar today..
