Description

Vickie's side of the conversation: "No, I have not been drinking, and I've yet to buy my car, so I haven't been drink driving. "It's humiliating having to walk in a straight line like this when you're sober and haven't been driving, either. "Don't know why you have to use this old fashioned sobriety test. All the other officers who stop me seem to be able to check how sober I am by pressing their palms on the skin of my chest... Seems an odd way to make the test, but they claim it's the newly introduced one and much more accurate. "Oi, don't make me drop my Mobius strip, it's glass, you know. "What is a Mobius strip? It's a one sided ring, where the single surface is continuous over the whole thing. "It really is a Mobius strip. "Yes, you can make one; I'm holding one. "I can't help the fact you had never seen a Mobius strip before. I can fix a lot of things, but I can't fix stupid. "Ah... I shouldn't have said that, should I?" --------------------------------- This is my old favourite, Jim Burton's Glamorous Vickie with Las Vegas hair. I'm trying out some new things. The first thing being the Lycra shader for her swimsuit. The second being the STL to OBJ conversion program I completed yesterday evening. The hard to understand shape in Vickie's right hand is a twin interlocked Mobius strip model I modelled in SolidWorks and printed on my 3D printer around Christmas. The model consists of 869,000 facets and was a bit of a beast to convert, but I was pleased to convert it to OBJ format, as it now means I can model props in SolidWorks and get the into DS. The two programs have numerous formats, but none are compatible. Then, I wanted to try the IRay glass shader, tweaking the full thickness depth setting to 10cm, to make the glass a bit greener. I suspect the Mobius strips need to be a solid colour to be comprehensible, because it's a deceptive shape at the best of times.

I had a similar whish. As a design engineer working with Autodesk Inventor, I wanted to model some stuff and bring it into DAZ Studio. My workaround was going through an old Version of Carrara (which by the way has a pretty impressive render engine) I own. The version 6.5 Pro had the possibility to import STL, STEP, SAT (ACIS) and IGES files. From Carrara I could then export an OBJ or a lot of other formats. Unfortunately the actual (and form DAZ somewhat neglected) Version if Cararra Pro (8.5) lacks those import filters. So I'm glad I kept all versions and even let the 6.5 Pro installed and run parallel to the 8.5 Pro release. So when ever I need to do this conversions, I use Carrara 6.5 Pro for a converter-program.
