Echo 396 was a late discovery in the second system sweeps of the 22nd century. Because of its distance from its sun, it was selected as a terraforming target for potential colonization. However, actual landings found it had already been abandoned once before; its previous inhabitants were long gone, due to massive industrial polution. Four decades went by as feeble attempts at reclamation and terraforming took hold, finally resulting in an arid class M environment. The decision was made to permanently wipe all previous structures from the surface- but not before everything would be carefully cataloged. We see a team of archeologists puzzling over a giant power / weather generating facility; the stone monoliths scattered throughout the desert are mineralized growths of harmless stone, found all over this small world. Will the new colonials create a better place, or repeat the cycle of greed and destruction?
