For several days, a small ship and its crew have battled a late autumn fog along the coastline of a remote area of the Baltic Sea. After a particularly unnerving night, the mists start to clear, and they can see some sort of natural break or inlet, which they follow. Strange land masses loom up as they pass deeper, finally coming into a large lagoon. They anchor, and a man is sent to investigate what appears to be some large dwellings on the mountainside.
