Sorry, not so vicious, but a cycle that sometimes is still quite unkind in its own way. This was the view looking out from our garage after I arrived home from work. It appeared to have lessened considerably at the time I had taken this snapshot on my phone. I only live a mere 3 miles from work, and even the afternoon commute takes but 15 minutes if I hit every red light; this day took considerably longer as traffic crept at about a walking pace due to numerous periods of almost complete whiteout. As is often the case in western NY, you can travel but a mere mile and experience significantly different weather, and this day it was definitely the case. One co-worker had attempted to leave work, and within minutes had come back complaining they couldn't see anything and decided to wait until things blew over a bit. I left moments later and understood their turning back, but pressed onward as my route home was short and pretty much a straight drive. My dogs needed to be let out too, and trust me, they know the time I arrive home. Anyway, winter is a part of the yearly cycle. It comes and it goes, but lingers what seems like forever. We see sunny days, but it's the overcast, grey, dreary days that seem to be the ones most common; or so it seems. It often seems as though we wake, trudge off to work in the dark. We put in a full day and then head back home in the dark as well. It seems like months are spent in the dark with brief breaks for the weekend. Perhaps it's not really always that overcast and gloomy, but it seems to be that those are the days that most influence us during those months between road construction seasons.
