Description

This is a Cuban Treefrog. Invasive species once again it found it way from here thanks to humans . Bad froggy: it eats our native frogs, lizards, and has a big appetite. Even eats its own kind on occasion. You can keep them as a pet, but it is illegal to release them. U of Florida recommends they be humanely euthanized. The University also keep records on where they are, how many, etc. Info is turned in by Florida citizens (like me). Info: Sometimes Cuban Treefrogs even find their way into homes, hanging out in toilets and clogging sink drains. Cuban treefrogs grow very large, and are known to cause costly power outages by short-circuiting utility switches. Our native treefrogs are all much smaller, and aren't known to cause such utility problems. I emailed the pic to U of Florida, who positively identified it as Cuban, so I'm getting up my courage to do the right thing even though it is not the frog fault.

It was just after dark on our Desoto county (Florida) farm. My (then) wife was out at the barn but hadn't turned on the lights yet when suddenly, she let out a terrified scream. One of these frogs, as big as your hand, had dropped down and landed on her face, covering her eyes, where it clung until she ripped it off. She had no compunctions about killing it!

They have huge suction pads. That would be quite a shock especially if you can't see what fell our your face!

Sadly it's like the huge constrictors that have been released here in Florida - too many - no zoos want them. They are all over the place and do damage. I don't want it eating my geckos & the brown anole lizard. It will be done humanely.
