Brigit took this all in as the three continued in silence. It was early morning and no one was in sight. The order was not home to just elves; humans and a dozen dwarves lived here as well. Humans and dwarves slept, but elves entered a meditative state and maintained a higher level of alertness while still recharging their bodies. At this hour, most were still asleep or in their state of meditation. Sentries would be blended in with the landscape and those who loved their experiments were busy in labs, noses to books or tinkering with contraptions. As they walked, Brigit thought over the fact that Shalivar had originally singled her out as Shalivar's replacement. In her last year at the Order, Brigit had suspected this and many others assumed it, along with Levi. When Brigit had lost so many good people after taking rules into her own hands, she had become quite confused over the matter. Now it was a moot point. Despite that, it still stung to hear that a new successor was firmly in place with a bright future. Brigit, meanwhile, felt lost in limbo. She has been offered a position in small but great order, but only if she could succeed in her appointed quest. What would become of her if she failed. She had little interest of continuing a lifestyle as a freelancer or mercenary. As she looked around at the empty plaza she was relieved not to see anyone. She really did not want to face anyone she knew. But it seemed with Levi, she had no choice. Brigit's return was not a secret, but it was not announced either. Brigit nor her hosts wanted any attention on this reunion. Brigit broke the silence by taking note of this. 'The grounds are completely deserted. It seems Sirenia got me here at the right hour.' Ethros answered, 'Yes. We wanted to keep your return out of sight as much as possible and we assumed you would be in agreement. Today is Meena's Day and considered a day off from normal activity. I'm sure many did some extra celebrating last night and are taking advantage of the day of inactivity to rest longer.' Shalivar finally gave a little chuckle. 'I remember you used to enjoy over celebrating from time to time. You and Levi used to set up those challenges with the new human arrivals and get them to drink Levi's Firencian Whiskey.' Brigit couldn't help but smile at that. Humans don't metabolize alcoholic drinks as easily or as quickly as elves. Firencian Whiskey is made for elves who want to find that buzz of joy once in a while and have it last. That clear whiskey usually knocks out most humans in short order, even the hardiest of drinkers. By now they had reached the top plaza and stopped before the fortress keep. Etheros said he would see Brigit off before the journey and bid a quick farewell with a hug and made his way to the keep. Shalivar stood before Brigit and seemed to just take her in as mother would a long lost daughter. 'You should meet with Levi now. She will lay out the entire plan for the expedition and introduce you to the team. You will have some time to wash, rest and eat before your journey begins tonight.' 'Tonight?!' Brigit exclaimed. 'No wasting time here. But that is good. I am ready to be under way. I imagine I can find Levi in the usual place?' 'Yes you can. Some things do not seem to change.' Shalivar smiled. The two women took each other's hands and leaned in pressing their cheeks against one another before parting. Shalivar continued to the keep and Brigit made her way to the larger of the two black towers. Rather than use the writer's gallery for this part, I divided the chapter into a couple of images so I could get some detail out of the plaza. Thanks for all the support and comments. Tomorrow Levi and Brigit re-unite. That's turning in to 2 parts as well. Looks like I have to start an official map of Gotodonia now. I'm working off of a scrap paper sketch right now.

Spectacular lighting in this, holy crap! :) A great scene too, beautifully composed. :) The story, too, is great, but that lighting just blew my mind right away.

Another stunning piece of work Art! That phoenix statue is awesome looking and the lighting in this is flawless. It shall be interesting to see what transpires when Brigit and Levi come face to face again. I though you had a map of Gotodonia but perhaps it was the entire land I'm thinking of.

Wow, I am glad to have fewer words if it means seeing a spectacular image like this. I can only dream of being able to walk through, let alone live in a place such as this. I see I was not wrong about how she would feel about Levi's being chosen the successor and her own feelings at being a bit lost in the process.

HAHA! Your description of the drink makes me think of the contest that Legolass and Gimli have in Lord Of The Rings. Gimli passes out and Legolass states that he feels only a slight tingling in his fingers! Fantastic image. That firebird looks wicked!
