Description

Something not quite right here? Aircraft from the 1930's era seem "unfinished" alongside their more business-like cousins. You know many aircraft of the era failed their first test in combat, but it seemed all Boeing's B17D "Flying Fortress" needed was about a dozen or so more 0.50 cal machine guns and a turret... or four. You've all seen the great European Theatre B17G "Flying Fortress" models doing the rounds. Well I've had the Pacific Theatre B17F on my to-do list for a while but then I read about "The Swoose" I was hooked. The Swoose was a patchwork of a few B17D's, a "Frankenbomber," reconstructed in Australia out of bits of various B17Ds that limped south after the invasion of the Phillipines and Java in World War Two. It takes its name from a popular song of the day - being not entirely swan or goose, and so, a "Swoose," its paintwork nonetheless proclaimed "It flies..." The Swoose survived the war as a US General's taxi. It was saved from break-up and recycling and after a long, long hiatus is currently being resurrected for museum display in the 'States. Rendered in Poser 9. Modelling in Shade 10.5 Thanks for viewing and comments...

Judging from the tail and waist ports, I'm guessing ol' "Swoosh" had a bit of the B-17A in her as well...I've built real-world (plastic and glue -I'm old fashioned sometimes) models of the B-17 A, D and G. It's interesting to see how this fundamental design evolved from its introduction in the late 1930s through the end of WW II.

Model looks fine. This model is on my to do list because there are dozens of G's around.
