Description

Barbara recently posted a wonderful image of Jasmine, intensely concentrating on something, and it made me think of this shot I took last summer at a Bird of Prey educational program given by "Last Chance Forever". You can see the beautiful Jasmine here "Founded in 1978 by Master Falconer and Veterinary Technician John Karger, Last Chance Forever is a nonprofit, tax exempt organization dedicated to the rehabilitation of sick, injured and orphaned birds of prey, scientific investigation, and also just as importantly, the education of the public. Each year the project receives between 150-300 birds into the facility for care. An average of 65-80% of all cases are successfully returned to nature. Birds which are deemed non-releasable and are not suffering when possible are held to be placed in propagation projects, natural science centers for educational purposes, or humane research projects." This is a really thoughtful dedi For Barbara, and as always you put a lot if care into your work. This exciting capture illustrates your point so well and makes it in such a captivating manner. What makes visiting your gallery a special experience is the way you take the time to provide us with detailed info on your images as well as share some if your own thoughts behind them. This organization is doing such important work and certainly a kind hearted animal lover like Barbara will love it.

Did volunteer work for a similar institution called "Hawk watch international". We also did a lot of field research where groups would be sent to a mountain range along the topography of the migratory paths. They even sent us down the Colorado river during the spring migration. All and all these institutions and their programs are devised to enlighten the public. A great image and dedication for Barbara!

Thankyou Lucinda, it is an amazing capture of this beautiful bird obviously all his/her concentration is on a piece of scrummy meat in the handlers hand. There are so many good rescue/rehabilitation centres around the world, just wish we didn't need so many for cruelty. xxx

It is a wonderful capture of intense concentration by both of them and it sounds like a great program to rescue these beautiful birds. There are so many things out in the world that can harm the birds. A super work and a great dedication.

Hi Lucinda! I bet you thought I would never get here again, lol! So glad to be able to come and see you! This is a wonderful shot and I love the info. I went to the website (you know how animal crazy I am) and bookmarked it to go back and learn about this. We have wild animal parks and pet rescue things here but I haven't seen anything like this. How I wish I had the funds to do something like that!!! Thank you for sharing this one and thank you for your constant support during my absence. It meant the world to me:-) I'm not back full time but hope to get here as often as possible, I missed all the great works and my friends soooo much! I am still unpacking, ugh!

There is something so humane (or ueber-menschlich) about this image, not only concentration but also sheer dedication to a great course, you captured this perfectly and the timing is so right; as they say, every picture tells a story and this one speaks for itself. I just happened to watch on TV, last night a story about a German guy and 11 orphaned Ibises, he had bought them up single-handed and then trained them to fly South, over Winter, to a warmer climate. After lots of trials, he finally succeeded, with them following him, behind a small flying Micro-lite (with a kite-like parachute wing). Fascinating stuff, Lucinda! BB

I wonder what's got the falcon's attention. He/she seems so intent upon his handler's hand. Dare I say there seems to be a grin of anticipation on the falcon's face. He/she has experienced this routine before I suspect. And from what I know about falcons, this does not bode well for whatever is in the grips of the falconer's hand. Which I suspect is not bird seed. Excellent photo, you got this magnificent bird's predatory character at just the right moment.
