Description

"The Little Dutch Boy" circa March 3rd 1942 A big Japanese "Mavis" flying boat had flown leisurely high over Broome the day before, snooping around. So like other pilots in the strike, Warrant Officer Osamu Kudo (fresh from downing the B24A offshore and dodging some hasty return fire from the moored flying boats) was probably justified in expecting less trouble from a rudimentary airfield with no anti-aircraft defences. But like the B24A he shot down, Kudo and his A6M2 remain missing till this day. Its unlikely he was briefed that there are some trees in the "Wild West" of Australia that you don't mess with... and most certainly any tree with a crazed Dutchman packing a Colt... One story that comes to us out of the confusion on the ground is that Gus "Wild Bill" Winkel faced with a deluge of Zeroes pulled a machine gun from his Lodestar, propped it on a convenient tree, put his finger somewhere useful- and let rip at the attacking zeroes... set one on fire... - and seriously burned his arm in the process ( the weapon it must be said is normally cooled by the frigid slipstream of an aircraft in flight... ). Rendered in Poser 8. M3 with Poserworld boilersuit (retextured). Colt MG40 0.3 inch aircraft machine gun and ammo belt modelled in Shade 10.5. Examples of this weapon occur at a museum in Broome - all removed from aircraft destroyed in the raid. If the weapon looks vaguely familiar (aside from the slotted cooling jacket on the barrel) its because its a license-built derivative of the Browning 1919A. once again the Lockheed "Lodestar" is Neiwil's Lockheed Hudson with a Dutch Indies paint job. other stuff: the tree (Traveler), the long grass (Lisa's Botanicals) and the savanna grass prop (DAZ). The pall of smoke is a Vue panoramic render applied to a skydome. Thanks for viewing...
