Description

The Black Stork Ciconia nigra is a large wading bird in the stork family Ciconiidae. It is a widespread, but rare, species that breeds in the warmer parts of Europe, predominantly in central and eastern regions. This is a shy and wary species, unlike the closely related White Stork. Another picture of this species in my series: thumb_2255606.jpg "Ciconia nigra (Lesbos #17)" Thank you for you comments on my previous upload : thumb_2259209.jpg "Pouillot fitisl (Lesbos #27)"

He reminds me of one of those dark-colored ibises, which are really pretty. We get the White-faced Ibis here. Their feathers reflect purple and green light when they turn dark for the season. This is an excellent picture, a real portrait.

He is a beauty, and I agree with what you said in the Last Week in the Gallery, I feel like I spend a lot of time in this gallery (well not recently though) and see a lot of photos but I am always amazed when I see the 30 selected photos and realize I hadn't seen maybe half of them before.
