Old houses like this remind me very much of some of the houses of my classmates when I was in elementary and junior high school. High school too. The families were poor but proud. The father usually worked the factories like Monsanto in the less desirable jobs - around the toxic chemicals or in janitorial or transport. The mothers stayed home and cleaned the dirty, dusty wooden floors, cooked one pot meals and was there when the kids came in from school, but each one of them took in mending, washing, ironing or all three at once. One of my friends was like that and her dad would drink a case of beer on the weekends and sit on the front porch of the house playing his acoustic guitar and sing... it was like magic to sit and listen to him randomly play country songs, one after the other. Her mamma sat at a treadle sewing machine sewing and mending...making clothes for more well-to-do families with young 'uns. When I see this house you have photographed, I think of those people and how they prayed as a family each night, kneeling on the splintered hard wood floors, thanking God for the few things they had.

LOL My home is very old but it keeps the rain off my head!!!!!!!! It might not have heating or cooling. but it's 2 story's and on the beach so I'm happy!
