I love playing with perceptual things with my camera...color, depth of field, odd sight-lines that all of the photography books and classes tell you to avoid...the good, juicy stuff. And to top it off, playing around with stuff gives you shots like this! I like this because it looks so...ancient. Not like last years impatiens, but more like that shot you took while vacationing somewhere overseas and you came across this lichen-tinged wall with ornate planters built right into it...and of course, they're 600 years old or something like that. Well, that's what I imagined when I first saw this because the colors and the textures actually imply that, and well...memories of walking by 600 year-old walls came back to me instantly, when I saw this. I happen to like architecture that's older than the country I was born it. Things are put into an interesting perspective that way. But anyway, enough rambling. This is an amazing shot and yeah, I really like the DOF in it, as well as the sort of ancient implications the lichens and the carved patterns suggest. This is really nice work!
