Description

The John Whipple House is a historic colonial house and National Historic Landmark located at 53 South Main Street, Ipswich,(Essex County), Massachusetts. The house has been open to the public, as a museum, since 1899. The oldest portion of the farm house was allegedly built around 1642 and sold shortly after to Captain John Whipple, a British soldier. The house features oak, pine and chestnut framework. At one point it was used as housing for mill workers in the late nineteenth century. In 1898 the Ipswich Historical Society purchased the house, restored it, moved it toit's current location and opened it as a museum and headquarters the next year. Much of this information came from Wikipedia. Taken June 16th, on Route 133 – just a few hundred yards, from the Choate Bridge, posted a few days ago, in historic Ipswich, Massachusetts. Thanks for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana

I love a good history lesson with a great photo! I'm really intrigued by the siding and the roof shingles: such patterns! The composition is elegant and clean, and this is yet another great shot! Nice work.
