The onward rush of life means "Now" is always effectively "Then." Still, photography does a sublime job at bringing the past into the present for maybe the present nearly exists as the eyes transmit to the brain. I gather this is a 1932 picture. The wonder is it brings the flavour into 2010 and free of the distortions of memory. Time adds value to photographs.
I really wanted to show the changes by mixing these two images together; the b&w from '32 and the color overlaid one from the past years. For ex. I highlighted the MetLife building on purpose, to express how much even a leading metropolis can develop in almost eighty years, while the bridge running from the old one into the new may represent something like continuity.
