Description

For centuries ships like this have sailed between East Africa, the Middle East, and South Asia, carrying the trade in spices and rare goods, and preying on that trade. "Even to the present day, dhows make commercial journeys between the Persian Gulf and East Africa using sails as their only means of propulsion. Their cargo is mostly dates and fish to East Africa and mangrove timber to the lands in the Persian Gulf. They often sail south with the monsoon in winter or early spring, and back again to Arabia in late spring or early summer. The term "dhow" is also applied to small, traditionally-constructed vessels used for trade in the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf area and the Indian Ocean from Madagascar to the Gulf of Bengal. Such vessels typically weigh 300 to 500 tons, and have a long, thin hull design. Dhow also refers to a family of early Arab ships that used the lateen sail, the latter of which the Portuguese likely based their designs for the caravel (known to Arabs as sambuk, booms, baggalas, ghanjas and zaruqs)." --Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dhow) Another ship doodle. This time using Allen9's wonderful Arab ship model, Sultana. Think this is one of the best ship wakes I've ever accomplished. Really like the way Filip's sky 57 reflects the light off them. On a personal note, my shoulder continues to heal. This week I graduate from "Passive" physical therapy to "gentle active" therapy, so I guess I'm improving. A special thank you to all of you who expressed concern or good wishes. And, of course, I always want to thank those who visit, those who also make comments pro or con, and those who add my pictures to their Favs List or make me their favorite artist. Keep on rendering! Great scene! Only thing would be to make the sail white or something other than the color of the ship (yes, the front one is in shadow, but I can see the rear one peaking out). Unless the model has no UV map. (or maybe they are white and the light is reddish)

Beautiful work on the wake Jeremy! I had to look 3 times at them ;) Love the whole scene. And if one looks close enough, you can also see the ship's crew. Nicely done all around, including the history bite on the dhow sailing vessel :) Hope the shoulder's getting better. Like all things, it'll continue to take patience, perseverance, and time. Take it easy and don't over-do it! Take care and render on!
