Description
I left Babcock Ranch on New Years Day driving west to visit a bird sanctuary when I glimpse a strange bird off on the side of county road 31, Florida. The colorful falcon was having a raccoon for dinner as I parked across from him and watched. He was a rare sight in these parts of America so I carefully looked through my Sibley guide to birds for a positive ID. Sibley agreed with me, it was a Caracara Falcon. A rare one indeed.

Sure is! I've never seen one, although I know they are around my area (Central Florida). Nice shot....poor raccoon.
Beautiful bird and capture! Excellent detail! That must have been a wonderful thrill to see!
I agree that it is a adult Crested Caracara. Super capture and looks real good in ZOOM mode. Dana
