Description

Photo by Alex Another photo from the zoo that Alex sent me to share with you:-). The Roseate Spoonbill is a wading bird of the ibis and spoonbill family, Threskiornithidae. It is a resident breeder in South America, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America, and the Gulf Coast of the United States. Vagrant birds have been sighted as far north as Delaware, Indiana, and Kansas. This species feeds in shallow fresh or coastal waters on crustaceans, very small fish bigger waders ignore, and other inverterbrates by swinging its bill from side to side as it steadily walks through the water, often in groups. In the United States a popular and easy place to observe Roseate Spoonbills is at Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge on Sanibel Island just off the west coast of Florida across a causeway connecting to Fort Myers.(from wikipedia) In Native American culture Bird Spirit Animals assist in matters of higher knowledge. They are symbols of strength, freedom and unity of fellow creatures. Spoonbill -- Sweeping obstacles out of ones way, shyness, wariness, silence, protection from communal living. You can learn more about spirit ( or totem animals ) at http://www.spiritwalkministry.com/spirit_guides Note: I am not back full time, tho I am feeling a little better since starting some pill therapy for the hernia and I think I am a bit stronger:-) I still need other tests and rest for the other problems that they haven't found the cause of yet. But I am trying to stay in touch and visit the galleries as often as I can. And I so appreciate every comment, prayers and love sent my way! Thanks for your visit and for previous comments and favs!

I have discovered a very useful side effect to keeping a candle burning in my kitchen....the fruit flies whose population explodes at this time of year, are drawn to the flame and expire!

This is a beautiful shot from Alex! Wonderful detail of feathers and head. Very interesting info too. A lot is to be learned about ourselves, in what we see in animals. I'm glad you're a bit better. I hope that becomes a lot better soon and you are able to put all these test behind you.
