Description

Before anything this was a group effort and I want to thank the guys that helped. Bob Dack for the story concept including the unusual twist and researching information I needed. Ed Bell for helping with the costume design. Roy "King of Latex" Knight for inspiration and support. Charlie for sharing technical/artistic secrets. I miss working with people to come up with something better than what I could have alone. Thanks guys. I started 3D wanting to "make" original characters for RPGs, mostly Champions and fantasy games. This is sort of my two-year benchmark, partly to mark the occasion and partly to see how much I have learned in that time. I modeled and rigged the extra costume elements and came up with material settings using the Elite Shaders for DS. Maybe I did well or maybe not. You can judge for yourself. So, with that in mind, it's story time: Between his Junior and senior years of college, Jack’s summer job working for rural electric company had him driving through backcountry of Arizona when he found himself lost. To make things worse, the old beat-up truck he was driving broke down. The sun was setting and he was wondered how bad his luck could get when he saw an old Indian leading a pony. Talking with the Indian, Jack was told he was miles from any towns but that the Indian knew a place to take shelter for the night and that Jack could make it to town the next day. With little choice, Jack followed the Indian to a cave where they made camp. While they sat by the fire, the old Indian began to tell stories. The final one was about how an Indian village was being attacked an evil spirit-beast. Every night it attacked and would take one of villagers away. During the day, they searched but never found any signs of their family and friends. A visitor came to the village one morning. The visitor said his was sent by the sky-children to fight the spirit-beast. That night the visitor and spirit-beast fought and the sky flashed with lightning from the fury of their blows. The visitor defeated the beast and stayed with the village teaching them of the sky-children and many things. The village prospered and it grew. Many years later, the visitor told the villagers that the sky-children were coming to take as many of them with them that would go. When time came, the sky-children descended from the sky in a cloud and many from the village went with them. Those that remained were afraid the spirit-beast would return. The sky-children gave to them a totem saying that when ever the spirit-beast returned, it would give them the power to fight it just as the visitor had. Jack laughed, “You are talking about little green men and UFOs. Maybe you have been smoking too much of something”. The old Indian replied, “Come see the totem if you do not believe”. With that the Indian lead Jack through the cave to a place where a smooth gray cylinder covered with Indian symbols sat on a slab of stone. “Touch it yourself, if you do not believe.” Amazed Jack reached out to pickup the cylinder and that is the last he remembered. On waking, Jack found the old Indian sitting by a fire “What happened?” Jack asked. “The Spirit-beast returns and will hunt again,” the Indian explained, “Just as the sky-children promised, you have been given the power to fight it as the visitor did many years ago.” “Why me? “ Jack asked? “No one remains of the village,” was the answer, “so you were chosen to fight the spirit-beast” Then Jack noticed… “What the H@$$!!! I’m a GIRL!!!” “The Coyote must have his joke…” Jack looked and the Indian was gone.

Your beast is great with the opacity and the fluorescent color, good idea. The scene action is very well.

Tyler, This really ROCKS!! I was lucky enough to see this from concept to final submission, and I have to say at first I wasn't sure where it was going, but to see this finished piece...WOW!! The story behind this really adds to this, it gives it a depth that you can't really achive with the image alone. The poses and POV are another big factor in this render, it puts the view more into the story than the typical shot nomally would, I really like the translucent look of the Spirit Beast, it adds that final bit that makes it more believable that a solid beast would. The costume on your Heroine is simple yet well done. It is something that I would see a man turned into a woman would wear, something funtional yet unentionally sexy at the same time. Her fighting stance is powerful and looks fluid, combine that with the look of rage and concentration on her face really rounds out a perfect piece of work. BTW you are always saying that your lighting needs work, well if I could do dark and errie like you do I would be very proud of it, as YOU should be!!! I am good at Latex and sexy, you are good at Dark Errie and sinister, embrace it and run it into th ground my friend. I would have to say this is in your top 5 of best pieces of work you have done so far. It was an honor to be a part of your insperation and team. Roy

Superb storytelling and a fantastic image to go along with it! Absolutely fantastic! And you've gotta give props to Coyote for his twisted sense of humor. Once a trickster, always a trickster.
