Description

Fuji FinePIx A330 The Hundred Fountains, Villa d’Este, Tivoli, Italy. Sept 2008. The long walk joins The Tivoli Fountain with the Fountain of Rome and is flanked by three channels terraced one above the other ,creating this dramatic sequence of fountains. Original design by Pirro Ligorio and built 1565-71. This fountain represents the antique course followed by the Tiburtine rivers –Albuneo, Ercolaneo & Aniene. Originally the fountain was adorned with 22 boats along the top channel with eagles and fleur-de-lys added in 1622 and obelisks at a later date. Spreading mosses and limestone deposits have almost completely covered and partly worn away the fine decorations. It is still breathtakingly beautiful. Thank you for your time

What a fantastic place, nice to see at least one eagle is clear of the moss, I think I would be forever cleaning them up if it belonged to me. I like lichens and mosses but I wouldn't let them take over something as beautiful as this without a fight. Love the gargoyles as well, looking a bit like Aunt Sally at the fairground with the mouth wide open like this. Superb capture and interesting information. Bravo!!!!!

How wonderful to walk there! Sometimes I am sorry that my lust for travels has left me. You show so many beautiful places, i had to go to your homesite, looking from where you come. Beautiful Ireland, a country with wonderful nature, and music I often listen too. I never made it more than to Oxford when going to GB, but both Ireland and Scotland are magnets for my imagination.
