Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image. 2007 was a long year for this female green lynx spider. She was one of the earliest I found and I I watched her for the entire season. About mid-summer she lost a leg but that did not seem to hinder her much. After that loss, she still managed to produce 2 egg cases and protect them till they hatched out. This image was taken on 8 Dec and was the last time I saw her. I am not sure if a bird finally got her, or if the cold did. Her color in this image is noticably different from her summer color (which is basically green). I really was intrigued by the red veining in her head and the "red sweater" she seemed to have grown for the winter. 2007 was also a long year for me. I bought my land in 1987 and moved onto it in 1988 (which is also the year my back problems started and I went on disability). I spent 1988 thru 1992 trying to adapt to my now limited physical abilities and new financial situation as well as clearing enough land to have room for a temporary dwelling, a new house, a shop, a yard, roadways, a pond, animal pens etc. In 1993 I had a slab poured and I built a 40 by 60 metal shop building. I had a dirt pad for the house constructed in 1994.I modified that and had the pads for several house porches poured in 1995. In 1996 I hired a crew and bought the materials to construct a basic welded main frame of red iron and all of the metal roofing. In 1997 I bought all the secondary wood framing, subfloor materials as well as the doors, windows and exterior skin. I spent 1998 thru 2000 installing all these materials. Then I ran into a set-back and things slowed down, lol. In 2001 my vehicle died as well as several major appliances and my riding mower. It took me until 2005 to reach a point where I could spend money on the house again. In 2006 I finished all the exterior trim, and did a rough-in installation of the wiring and plumbing. In 2007 I did not physically accomplish much because of my back but I did manage to save enough cash to let me purchase all the sheet rock and insulation needed to finish that part of the constructuion. Tomorrow morning I am supposed to see a truck load of materials and several laborers arrive at my doorstep. Hopefully by dark, there will be piles of sheetrock and insulation in every room, lol. So now everyone, who read this posting, is caught up on my adventures in North east Texas, lol. AS a result of this new supply of materiald, I will be an infrequent visitor to RR. However, as time permits, I will post a few of the images I took last year but never got around to posting. Thanks to thse who find the time to comment. Lee

the baby lynz in my garden hopefully went underground for the winter.excellent macro Lee and happy for you to get your home together.I have hung lots of drywall, but ceilings is something I will not do except for repairs.I was doing a commercial job years ago and had 5/8 x 4x10 to hang in a print shop and the guy that was suppose to help me never showed up so I had to fight the heavy sheets my self around printing equipment.I was so tired I hired a tape and bed man to do that part for me

Fascinating timeline. I have only known a couple people who did waht you are doing. And, I might add, they too were Texans. I taught my son well and he has been helping 2 families build their own houses this past year. Hopefully, this year, those 2 families will help him to build his. This spider shot is excellent. It almost looks like one of those rubbery things I make with my grandson. The coloring is sure different from the last shot I saw of her. I am touched you seem to care so much for these bugs and know one from another.

I certainly hope you get your project finished without mishap Lee, Be careful and look after your back, I have torn a disc in mine and its protruding and giving me nerve pain a lot, so I know what its like. A pretty nifty shot of this little critter, very interesting colour change, I wonder if it has anything to do with camoflauge? Excellent detail, I never noticed until I came on RR and saw your pics, that spiders have these spikes/hairs sticking out of their legs. I'm guessing it has something to do with the dinner bell going off when something gets trapped in their web, picking up vibrations. I really must get round to reading up some of these things. Excellent work, both the photography and the house. Bravo!!!!!

Its amazing that you've kept track of her for so long. A super picture with the colours of the oak leaf complementing hers. Best wishes with your exciting and demanding project.
