Description

This was my entry for the Vue challenge "flower power". It was not the winner but I still think it's worth posting here. I hope you like it. Thanks for your kind comments in previous images and thanks for watching!

It's a wonderful piece, the statues pose and mats are superb as are the flowers. Excellent scene.

The theme is very well represented- I would say that it is a winner in its own category of creative idea and technical excellence. The camera tilt adds a lot to the statue's forceful pose, and composes a great image.

Very nice model and textures. I'm not too crazy about the tilted horizon, plus it bisects the image, which IMO doesn't do much for the overall figure ground relationship. Technically, the modeling, lighting, texturing and scene setup is right on!

'Flower power' can be such a cheesy subject. I applaud your choice of angle on the subject - not the expected, banal, saccharin 'chocolate box' picture at all! To me it says: even a character who seems stone-hard, with a defiant attitude can have a poetic heart. His poetry is unique - pure white flowers, in contrast to the common yellow ones of his 'real' surroundings. The non- conformist positioning of the statue along the diagonal of the image enhances his character - 'who cares about rules I do what I see as right'. Thank you for the refreshing take on the subject.

Ahh, very topical in this climate, over hyped, media driven society. Materials are nothing less than I expect from your creativity. Interesting camera angle too..Suggesting the road to "Change" is never straight forward! Still trying to figure out a meaning behind your previous image..I'll get there one day! Regards Kev

Really great concept, very original on a theme that others could have overdone with something more "classy" and "schoolish" :)

wow. i'm actually really disappointed that this didn't win. imho, this is much more powerful in terms of composition, technical ability and heart. this picture says so much on its own, and even more with its title. the winning picture says basically nothing without its explanation. and even then, technically, it's below what i'd post, and i've posted some really weak roses and don't have an environment maker. i guess there's no accounting for some judgments. i think the angle is perfect, and the camera work inspiring. it's one of the strongest uses of multiples in your work in terms of how simple, graphic and realistic it is. and i'm still not sure how you did the statue at all. the lighting is perfectly dramatic, and compliments the pose. i think this is very well done, and you should consider it a victory and great accomplishment.

Reminds me of the Lazarus Heart by Sting. It is a powerful image pulled from the human sub-conscious. I think you hit the target spot on with this one. It's a winner in my book! ^___^V,,
