Description

Yesterday, Marshall (PhrankPower) and I had the opportunity to wander about photographing this historical mansion on Vance Avenue, here in Memphis, Tennessee. The three story mansion is so huge that it was almost too much even for two photographers to photograph. In this picture I'm standing on a landing between the first and second floor looking up. The spiral rail and individual posts are hand carved. Each is different in length and width and is an absolute piece of artwork. They sure don't make houses like this anymore! This is shot with natural lighting from the upstairs window and overhead light on the first floor. All photo elements are as is - no physical alterations. Most post-work by Marshall. Thanks for stopping by make it a great day!

I love this shot because it looks like an altered image, even though I know it's not. Three different light sources: the skylight lights the stairs, an indoor light lights the lower floor, and light through windows lights the 2nd floor. I get dizzy looking at that banister. Amazing that it is hand carved. The tilt of the photo providing a level horizon adds even more to this amazing natural abstract. Wish I could claim this one as my own. Excellent photograph!

I would have preferred without the frame. This is a wonderful shot with beautiful elegant curves which deserves the highest honors! 5+!
