Description

Ok - I should have added more roughness to the clouds :) This render came it at only 3:30, so I was happy with that. WM v1.25 base terrain with 1 power fractal for small-scale noise. Is anyone up for sharing their favourite render settings *smile*?

Beautiful terrain, pov, population... I use often detail 1, AA 4. For big cumulus, 200/300 samples or more. Usually 64/128 samples for atmo, but much more if there are some rays or complex lightings...

Terragen 2 seems a little bit different to the earlier releases. Your images are brillant as befor but they changed a bit. ......or belongs this to the time you spend with warcraft? Merry christmas and a happy new year.

Wow great sense of depth! Awesome terrain and nice colors. Maybe the sky could be a little bit darker blue? Increasing contrast and reducing gamma in the render might do the trick without post-processing.However, good work again Eoin! The best render-settings are very scene dependent of course. As for atmo settings I think you chose good settings since the image is crisp and clear. Like hillrunner I render at 64 to max. 128 atmo samples. Cloud samples are heavily dependent on the type of clouds. As for detail levels, I often render around 0.8 - 0.9. Increasing further doesn't give that much extra detail and only increases the rendertime dramatically. Same is for GI, in this render a 2/2 setting will be sufficient. Scenes with dense clouds for example benefit from higher settings. Complex lighting setups also of course. Maybe a nice tip is to tincker with the "detail blending" setting under the "more options" tab. Lowering this can significantly reduce rendertimes without too much quality loss. Martin

Nicely constructed scene, and good use of tree pop. Have you got an X or Z stretch on those clouds? I usually render @ Detail 0.9, AA 4 or 5, GI 3/3. Cloud sampling varies directly with Cloud Density, I haven't gone above Density 2 yet (that's usually about 400 samples). Atmosphere somewhere around 64 samples usually does it for me. I don't like rendering for more than 12 hrs (overnight) although the last one I did took 20 hrs.

One more excellent render. The moss and grass is a very nice effect and adds life. Love the jet stream clouds. The haze is a nice touch. :O) This one also goes into my WIHD folder..

TG2 is no easy program to work with; but, from what we see here, you are well on your way. The tips given by others are very good. Thank goodness for this gallery and for the Planetside forum ...mastering TG2 is slow; but well worth it!

My last renders didn't took more than 1 hour. AA never more than 0.8, cumulus sharpness 5.2, density 0.006, coverage -0.4. try to reduce their feature scale, that gives small realistic cumulus. Nice render btw.

Wonderful terrain and view! You only must improve the trees, who looks artificial and the clouds. Happy Holiday!

The picture post card scenes of passes and parks have just enough pioneer in them my eye does not always go to Europe.

Nice picture, Eoin. It recalls to me you excellent color choices. Regarding time of renders, you don't have to render a lot larger that the finished image size. There are a number of useful files and clips in the Planetside forums - I like the ones with realistic rocks, cracked and so on.

A very fine render with little improvement necessary.. maybe the clouds could use some tweaking but I as well like the 'jet stream' effect. RE: the trees..they seem all the same size..did you adjust the smallest=largest size sliders....that is something I often forget whilst trying to get a nice distribution. The surface texturing is very good.. ...

Natural and very beautiful, Eoin. I love the perspective, and your population work is impressive. Great lighting, as well. I render my TG2 images at 1024x768; detail 1, Anti-aliasing 3, GI relative Detail 3 and Surface Detail 4. It's a pleasure to see your work again.
