Description

Hi R'R Gang ! Been very busy in my new/old digs, and finding new photo opps :) I have not been able to comment nor upload very often due to a crazy schedule (And I have had no bot notices of my fave artists here for over a month) I was in the "middle coast" of the US for about 6 years (IE, only lakes , not a coast or port) This is the beginning of a new series that features the Fremont, Ballard, and Magnolia areas of Seattle. I am home again! This shot was taken last week at the bottom of Fremont, on North Lake Ave. What is really cool, this is less than 10 blocks from where I work, so I visit this area every morning. (Pinches self) Just a few blocks away from this view is the historic "Gas Works Park" Rusty old pipes, generators and tanks oh my :) I have some photos coming soon from there. This is yet another film shot now with a 1974 Canon FTbn, 35mm FD lens, Nikon 55mm polarizer, Fuji Velvita ASA 50 film, scanned with a Nikon Coolscan V ... Then a kind of a pseudo HDR. HDR is easy in digital when using a tripod, however even with a tripod, film bracket shots (2-3 photos in a row with different exposure times) will always be a problem to align due to skew/position changes of the film. Using Film with a great overall exposure with a high density film, this can be performed in photoshop .. Simply use a selection tool of choice to grab an area that may need some brightness or saturation adjustments .. Then choose "Load Selection" . Choose that selection, and create an NEW adjustment layer. At this point, you can choose what to adjust, including Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation etc.. Make the chosen adjustments on that selection (What is cool about adjustment layers is they take very little space) Bingo! You may notice halos etc around what you had selected and adjusted.. Not a problem, you can erase with the erasure tool, sections of the adjustments! (That does increase the file size though) I used 3 selection areas on this photo. Far left boats, Far right hill, and the foreground trees. Everything else was perfect :) As to the trees, that was a tough one, but using advanced painting brushes in PS, then erasing the "overspray" seems to work. Ya,, would be easier with my digital systems, but this is fun. All the best ! Kurt
