Wow. Looks pretty cool to me. I can see it either as an exotic communications device, some kind or portal, or even the barrel of a big scary weapon. Looks fantastic.

McDod why yes it is XD Simply ball, matrix extrude all faces, add a bulge object(never used one before), add a texture and a light and you have yourself one of those. Thanks for all the comments, not bad for a 5 minute job hey :P
