The new critique group has me wanting to actually create and *finish* artwork. This is a WLIP (Work Loooong in Progress) from 2003, well before shaders and IBL, so it was rendered in 3ds max. Never could get the lighting right, but I was quite happy with the pose. She's in an upper floor of a tenement, at night. There are thugs in the hallway outside or in the adjacent apartment; she doesn't know where. She does know that the thugs will do various fatal things to her, if she doesn't do them to the thugs first. It's an enlarged draft render, as it's silly to keep doing 12 hour renders of an incomplete work. This is version 12a. In v.16a, the aspect ratio and angle was changed a little to get a better view of the hallway and the space where the perps may lurk, unseen by her. Various mesh goofs have not been seen to yet. And her leg is not sticking out into the doorway in full view of the perps, it's the camera angle, though the change in 16a fixed that. I later tried giving the scene a blue tint, so it would say, "Nighttime!", but that didn't work well enough. Fiddled with the contrast of the lighting, and still not enough. Maybe a combination of the two. After seeing it for the first time in a while, i want to go mess around with it some more, now.

I like that pretty well, it's VERY dramatic. The skin of her face has a slightly grayish tint that I don't know if you intended, and you might try turning on Ambient Occlusion for her hand skin to catch a bit of shadow line. Left pinky tip is bent much too sharply. Hand pose is overall wonderful, and I love her expression.

Nice POV and I like the posing of the hands very much and the lighting. Not totally convinced with the leg pose however. :(

Very unique POV. Great idea, good pose. I would suggest AO as well. The textures on the doorframe and wall could need a bump map, they are looking quite flat. But the idea is great.

The lighting is good, those irregular shapes, I like it. The pose is very good. I specially like the fingers in her left hand, very natural. POV is original and well chosen. I don't like so much her clothes as they have some unnaturally sharp angles. Also the color seems washed out.

I love love love the perspective of this, and the feel, nice angles and dynamic image. The clothes I think are fine, but what i notice (because of the perspective) is the lack of hair beside her ear (female side burn hair if you will). For the clothes, if the material zone's allow it, you might try a metalic texture on the buttons, might give it a more authentic feel (though i think the clothes are great)

Thank you for the comments, and for the helpful advice--It was 3 years since i last worked on this, so I'll try to address some details: Bump maps are present, but barely show in the draft render. The grayness on her skin may be another windowpane shadow from one of several light sources. I hadn't even heard of AO in 2003! :) I could probably do a better leather/metal texture, and possibly skin shader. I think the legs look strange because of the camera focal length, and because they're almost a silhoutte. Maybe... This may represent the final version, rather than the other letterboxed verion I tried to do later. may as well keep it simple.
